Required to accurately document information into Epic as appropriate. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures, policies, insurance requirements, and registration and patient access function and tools by actively participating in in-services and training sessions. Cross-references patient and department information for multiple procedures to improve patient flow and minimize risk of clinical contradictions. Performs outgoing calls to patients and physician offices regarding reschedules and cancelations. Responsible for obtaining insurance authorizations, including providing pre-registration, verifying insurance and ensuring preauthorization requirements have been met from all potential payor sources. Responsible for scheduling surgical cases according to scheduling guidelines and current block schedule using faxes, emails, telephone and other incoming communication mechanisms as appropriate. The Surgical Scheduler reports to the Manager, Physician Practice. The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for surgical scheduling for department providers, oversight and coordination of block time, and working with operating room (OR) schedulers to optimize provider OR time and schedules.
